Sam didn't want to find out why they wanted to kill him, at least not at the moment. He would have much rather sat there and just explored where things were going to go with Coraline. Apparently she was more worried about his safety at that moment than he was, which was probably a good thing.

"Dude, not cool," Sam said, sliding out of the car after Coraline. "You don't out a guy that he talks about a girl a lot."
