Coraline was loving being a grown up. Not only could she drink and kiss boys and stay up as late as she wanted but she'd made a whole load of new friends and she was going into dino territory again unaccompanied. Well, accompanied by Aidan but that didn't count. Aidan was cool, Aidan was friends with ghosts and werewolves which was an idea that Coraline could defintely get behind. And besides it wasn't like she was going to get into trouble. Well, it wasn't like she was purposefully going to try to get into trouble.
"You're late," Coraline said as she heard someone approach her from behind. Bent over Coraline was trying to tie the laces on her boots and was scowling something fierce at them. Coraline had forgotten how irritating laces were, wearing wellies was far easier but that would led to some uncomfortable questions from certain people. Besides she didn't want people interrogating or stopping her when she was off to explore. "You know you're not supposed to keep a lady waiting."
Coraline stood up, pulling her t-shirt down from where it had ridden up and turned to face Aidan.
"I'm kidding, I haven't been waiting at all. I just wanted to make you fear my terrible wrath. Are you excited?" Coraline asked Aidan curiously with a bright, easy smile.

The offer was good enough that Aidan would almost be willing to get hurt on purpose.
"And that's perfect," he said with a nod, shifting positions slightly again. And if that happened to bring his mouth a bit closer to her ear, that was just a bonus. "Now, you grip the gun with your dominant hand high on the back, this helps you with the recoil when you fire. You'll want to put the other hand underneath, cupping the gun to help you support it up."

Coraline followed his instructions carefully, tilting her head to look at him.

"You do want to open up your stance just a bit though, one foot a bit in front of the other."

"Now, you focus through your dominant eye. The target you're shooting as should be blurry, your front sight the most clear, and your back sight a little blurry. What are you going to use as a target?"

"You want to relax, and squeeze the trigger on your exhale. Squeeze is the key word, you're not actually pulling it. It should be a smooth and you should surprise yourself when it goes off, don't try to anticipate when it does," he told her, taking his hands off her hips and stepping back. "Try it when you're ready."

Coraline took a deep breath before she gently squeezed the trigger only letting out a small eep at the loud noise and the recoil. It hit the tree, the bullet lodged in the trunk. Coraline exhaled, turning her head to smile brightly at Aidan. Coraline was definitely a fan of Aidan's, right now he was more awesome than Robin.
"That was so... brilliant. I could kiss you! That was just incredible, it's so strong." Coraline said excitedly as she waited for Aidan to come take the gun back.
no subject
"Well done. Why don't you take a few more shots? Don't shoot rapid fire, but try and take one after the other in steady succession."
no subject
Coraline's shots weren't neat or centered around a point but she had at least hit the tree which was a plus in Cora's book. "Come on then Indiana, let's put the gun away and get going." Coraline grinned. As soon as he took the gun off her and put it away he was going to get a hug. This was the best day Ever.

"Alright, but if you want to practice again some other time, let me know."
no subject
"Thank you! You're the best, seriously. Definitely not uninteresting," Coraline said smiling brightly at him.
no subject
"You've uncovered my secret," he said, giving her a small smile. "I'm actually pretty interesting."

Coraline turned her head as she ran off, hair whipping around as she laughed.

"How will we know when we're in dinosaur territory? Is there some sort of fence or mark in the terrain?"
no subject
Coraline slowed down as they neared the boundary and smiled at Aidan. "So, are you ready or do you just want to... hang here and see if any come close to us."
no subject
"An invisible fence, that's going to make it hard to tell when we get to it, isn't it?" he asked. Aidan had no problem courting danger, but he wasn't under any belief that he could outrun a dinosaur.
"And I guess if nothing is around, we should probably head on in."
no subject
Coraline laughed, tugging on Aidan's arm as they got closer. Coraline couldn't see anything but you never knew. It always paid to be prepared and vigilant.
no subject
"So how close are we?" he asked, more than happy to let himself be pulled along after her.

"Any idea what types of dinosaurs are here or from what period?"

"I wouldn't think the population of the island would be able to feed a large group of dinosaurs. Too many plant eaters and their vegetation would be gone, too many carnivores and they'd eat their food supply too fast."

"Can't say I've ever done much gardening."

In answer to her question, Aidan took a jump and scrambled up the tree. He was still getting used to not having his vampire abilities, but fortunately climbing up the tree was still within the realm of what he could do.

Coraline grinned at Aidan before pointing excitedly. Coraline loved the brachiosaurus even if they were giant and therefore a little scary. "See over there, that dark shape. That's its neck and you should be able to see its head in a minute."
no subject
"That... is a brachiosaurus."

"I'm glad you suggested this," he said, leaning his head on hers as he watched the dinosaur lumber into view.
