There were fourteen patients; three in critical condition, nine stable and two ready to be discharged. There were ten bunches of flowers; four mixed rose bouquets, one tulip bouquet, three lily bouquets and two wild flower bouquets. There were four nurses on shift, one orderly and a tea lady named April who did in fact know how to make a proper cup of tea and of course there were the Other Doctors who Coraline mostly seemed to ignore especially the handsy one. Some of the Other Doctors were idiots, the nursing staff on the other hand were quite good and April, April was a saint. Especially when she bought her a cup of tea in the middle of an eighteen hour shift.
"Hello Miss Spink," Coraline asked, brushing her hand on the shoulder of one of the new nurses before leaning across the desk to take the mug from her. Taking a mouthful Coraline let out a low happy moan, her hand tightened on the shoulder before she let go and smiledbrightly at the tea lady. "Miss Spink you are a lifesaver. How's your knee?"
"Oh, you know can't complain. It's Miriam's hip that are the problem, when we used to tread the boards we never had any troubles but now everything aches and creaks." Coraline smiled, turning before hopping up onto the desk swinging her long legs back and forth as she drank the tea. Looking down startled at the handsome man staring up at her, Coraline flushed as he stared intently at her. No one really looked at her like that before not like they wanted to... um, eat her. It was kind of creepy and a little bit hot. "Here Aidan dear, I made you a nice cup of coffee."
Coraline swallowed her tea as he reached over to take the coffee, his intense stare lightening as he smiled at Miss Spink.
"Have you met Aidan yet Caroline? Aidan is one of our nurses, he's taking over some of Rebecca's shifts. Aidan this is Doctor Jones."
"It's Coraline actually, Coraline Jones. Hello," Coraline said offering her hand.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you."
"It's alright... Lieutenant Bishop, right? I've seen you at the hospital a few times," Coraline said offering her hand to the man who took the hand and smiled, all teeth at her. Coraline frowned, trying to place why that felt... familiar.
"Call me James and it's Caroline isn't it? I didn't realise you were friends with our Aidan," Bishop replied.
"It's Coraline, not Caroline and yeah, we're on a da-" Coraline cut herself off as she studied the man, staring intently at her. The way he looked interested when she said... weird. "Yeah, we're friends I guess."
"That's good, Aidan needs all the friends he can get right now." Coraline looked at the policeman curiously, into Bishop's eyes, wondering what the hell he meant by that. "Can you tell Aidan something for me?"
Coraline looked up at the sound of glass on the table, snapping out of it before smiling more relieved than anything. There was something about policemen, well maybe just that policeman in particular, that Coraline didn't like. But then she'd always distrusted the police.
"Hey, you just missed your friend." Coraline said, pointing at the door swinging shut before reaching for her pint. Coraline smiled as she dragged it across. "He said to say hi and to give him a call in the morning if you needed help? Except he seemed to say it in an entirely creepy way, really you should probably tell him how not to creep or maybe just how to smile a little more."

"Josh doesn't mean to come off creepy, he really doesn't," Aidan said. He wasn't quite sure how Josh meant to come off, but it usually wasn't how he did come off. "He's just excitable and he's got a big night tonight."
no subject
"Oh, no not Josh. Josh is a complete puppy, definitely an excitable puppy no it was-" Coraline paused, to take a mouthful of the drink before placing the glass down on the table again. "-Mmmm, so good. Oh, right it was your cop friend? James? Um, Bishop?"
no subject
"Bishop's friendship is... complicated," Aidan said. He wasn't even sure if he could always say Bishop was his friend. More his father than anything else. "Sometimes I'm not sure if he's a friend. I'd stay away from him if I were you."
no subject
"Ah, you shouldn't have said that." Coraline said admonishing Aidan lightly, ducking her head with a slight smile. "When people tell me to stay away from things, I tend to stay away from them by investigating thoroughly why I need to stay away from them. My parents always said I'm far too curious for my own good."
Coraline's hand remained with Aidan's, thumb absentmindedly stroking the back of his hand. Coraline looked at Aidan curiously, her nose wrinkling as she studied him.
"Do you have a lot of complicated friendships?" Coraline asked.
no subject
"Nurses hours make it tricky to have a lot of close friendships," Aidan said. It wasn't the whole truth, but it was close enough. Trying to fit in though, you couldn't completely isolate yourself so he was fairly good acquaintances with people at work and around the neighborhood.
"I hang out with some people at work now and then though and I couldn't ask for a better friend in Josh."
no subject
Coraline laughed, stretching her hand forward onto his leg as she smiled at him.
"Nurse hours, doctors hours, cop hours... I get it. Sometimes I'm just so wired after work and then most people are in bed or out at work so it kind of makes things... complicated I guess. Not mime complicated obviously," Coraline said poking Aidan in the side as she teased him lightly. Leaning against his body for support as she began to oh boy feel the affect of that additional pint. "You guys are really close aren't you? It must be nice having someone like that."
no subject
"But promise me you won't say anything to the others? Will you swear the silence of the mime to me?"
It was odd, how relatively close she was to the truth. Just replace 'mime' with 'vampire' and there you go. Fortunately, not many people would assume vampires. Not that many would assume mime either.
"But Josh and I are close. We'd... probably be lost without each other."
no subject
"Oh, of course not. You can trust me, I'm very good with secrets." Coraline said before she held her hand out and mimed a brownie promise and swear. Coraline dropped her hand back against Aidan's stomach, her fingertips brushing against him slightly before she flushed as she listened to him talk about Josh like that.
"Oh! Oh, right. Sorry, I just assumed- with the flirting. Which I mean, was probably all me and you never said it was bothering you so I thought... but you and Josh. Right! Sorry!" Coraline said feeling a little flustered. She had no idea what Aidan must have thought of her throwing herself at him like some... floozy. Okay, well at least she hadn't invited him home or tried to snog him or anything because that would have been awkward. More awkward than that time her and Johnny had been... oh wow, nope this was definitely worse than that. "I'm just going to drink this and hope the ground swallows me whole. This is why I never flirt ever, disaster area."
no subject
When she suddenly became awkward, he couldn't help but laugh loudly at what she had obviously thought he meant when he said they were close and would be lost without each other. While Aidan had dabbled in that sort of thing in the past, that was DEFINITELY not how he viewed Josh.
"That's not what I meant at all," Aidan said, pulling her closer again. "I'm not with Josh in that way. I'm very single right now. Although it's good to confirm that you were flirting with me."
no subject
"Ground swallow me now," Coraline said sliding her hand up, beneath Aidan's jacket to rest against his shoulder. Biting her lip, Coraline licked them as she looked at Aidan curiously. Or rather looked at his lips. Feeling a flush of desire, her heart picking up speed a little she busied her hands in the fabric of his top. "You mean, you couldn't tell I was flirting by my awkward flailing at you?"
no subject
"I did notice all the touching though," he added, growling happily as she slid her hand along his shoulder.
no subject
"I'm- I like touching people, it reminds me that they're real... alive. And okay, it's a little flirty." Coraline said rubbing her lips together as she looked at Aidan's lips and swallowed a little as he leaned forward. She could almost brush her lips against hers if he leaned forward a bit more.
no subject
This was a bad idea. Really, really bad in fact but he couldn't help himself. She was so irresistibly tempting and he wanted her. He wanted to feel the heat of her skin and the taste of her lips. Her blood pumped through her veins so loudly it was like a rushing in his ears and Aidan had to fight to keep himself from doing more than just sliding his arm to her waist and pulling her close.
no subject
Pressing her bare fingers against her neck, she almost slid onto his lap before hesitating at the very public location.
no subject
Slowly pulling away, Aidan closed his eyes and pressed his forehead against Coraline's. He could feel his fangs partially out and was sure that if she could see them right now, his eyes would be black. He took several deep breaths before he was calm enough again to open his eyes.
"So... how alive am I?"
no subject
"The test results are inconclusive," Coraline said seriously, her leg running up his as she shifted beside him. "We should double check to make sure before we prescribe any treatment for lack of aliveness."
