Coraline had discovered six new flowers she'd never seen, a variety of different birds and she hadn't seen a soul for ages. She was truly free to explore wherever and however she wanted. She'd never really expected freedom to be so lonely though. She quite missed Adam, she even missed Lucy though she was still determined never to talk to her again.

Walking across the long strip of isolated beach, she stopped for lunch. Dropping her backpack onto the ground, Coraline took out the sunblock and began to smear it on her face. Adjusting her hat, she took out her lunch and began to nibble at it. Coraline stared out at the sea and smiled happily in the sun.

It was then that she heard the noise. A strange growling noise behind her, following by the trees and bushes moving as something came near. There was something in the jungle behind her.

"Who's there?" Coraline said, taking the knife she'd pilfered from the kitchen out. "Come out and show yourself!"

The rustling stopped for a moment before rustling again much more furiously as something bounded out of the jungle. Coraline breathed out with relief.

"Bonspiel! Bonnie, what are you doing here?" Coraline said, bending down to fuss the dog. Scratching behind her ears, Coraline pulled the cocker spaniel onto her lap and giggled as she licked her face. "Did Joe send you or did you come on your own? Because you know I can look after myself."

Coraline looked at the small dog sternly before giving up with a smile. "Oh, alright but only because I daren't think what might happen to you if I send you home."

It looked like she had company on her little adventure afterall.

Coraline was having a grand old time. She rather felt bad about leaving everyone without saying goodbye but really, now they'd know how she felt. It hurt to be left behind and abandonded by your so called friends. Coraline walked for a couple hundred more yards before eventually deciding on a rather isolated bit of Island to sleep in.

Setting up her camp for the night, Coraline unpacked the waterproof matress protector and tied it between two of the trees. If Coraline was anything, she was definitly resourceful. Gathering wood, she piled them around together and made a small fire. Warming her hands above it, she watched as a mouse darted past her quickly, a snake chasing it. Coraline threw catbag at the snake, watching it land with an uncomfortable squishing noise. Ew, snake guts. Coraline wiped the remains of the snake off her bag and bent down to peer at the timid creature.

"It's alright, little mouse. I've killed the snake." Coraline said, bending down to offer the mouse a crumb of the now stale bread. Coraline watched as the mouse darted to the food and nibbled it curiously. "There you go, I wish I could take you home with me. I'd call you Bobowitz, after Mister Bobo. I'm sure Adam wouldn't mind."

Coraline sat beside the fire, the little mouse accepting bits of scraps as she passed them to it. Staring at the fire she didn't notice it crawl into her bag. Reaching into her pocket she brought out an apple and chewed on it thoughtfully. She was getting very good at this running away business.

Coraline tucked the note into her secret hiding place, the secret hiding place that she knew Adam knew about. Untying the key from around her neck, she left it with the letter and sighed. She'd already left a bag, hidden away from where Adam would find it and when she left him at school she would go and retrieve it. She wasn't running away, she was just going for an adventure. She'd be back soon enough.

Coraline was miserable. Lucy, the one friend she loved and trusted, had betrayed her. Leaving Coraline alone on the beach whilst she went off exploring the high seas and Lucy hadn't even realised what she had done. Coraline hated being left behind, hated being forgotten and Lucy had done all those things. The more Coraline thought about it, the more upset she got until she didn't do any of her work in class and sat staring glumly into space. Coraline had spent most of Tuesday night crying in her bedroom, by Wednesday she had made her decision. She was going to runaway and have her own adventure.

Coraline put on her catbag and followed Adam to the school. Coraline had kissed Adam goodbye and gave him an extra tight hug. She waved and pretended to go inside the building. Once he was gone, Coraline left in the opposite direction towards where she'd hidden her bag of provisions.

Coraline was running away.
