There were fourteen patients; three in critical condition, nine stable and two ready to be discharged. There were ten bunches of flowers; four mixed rose bouquets, one tulip bouquet, three lily bouquets and two wild flower bouquets. There were four nurses on shift, one orderly and a tea lady named April who did in fact know how to make a proper cup of tea and of course there were the Other Doctors who Coraline mostly seemed to ignore especially the handsy one. Some of the Other Doctors were idiots, the nursing staff on the other hand were quite good and April, April was a saint. Especially when she bought her a cup of tea in the middle of an eighteen hour shift.
"Hello Miss Spink," Coraline asked, brushing her hand on the shoulder of one of the new nurses before leaning across the desk to take the mug from her. Taking a mouthful Coraline let out a low happy moan, her hand tightened on the shoulder before she let go and smiledbrightly at the tea lady. "Miss Spink you are a lifesaver. How's your knee?"
"Oh, you know can't complain. It's Miriam's hip that are the problem, when we used to tread the boards we never had any troubles but now everything aches and creaks." Coraline smiled, turning before hopping up onto the desk swinging her long legs back and forth as she drank the tea. Looking down startled at the handsome man staring up at her, Coraline flushed as he stared intently at her. No one really looked at her like that before not like they wanted to... um, eat her. It was kind of creepy and a little bit hot. "Here Aidan dear, I made you a nice cup of coffee."
Coraline swallowed her tea as he reached over to take the coffee, his intense stare lightening as he smiled at Miss Spink.
"Have you met Aidan yet Caroline? Aidan is one of our nurses, he's taking over some of Rebecca's shifts. Aidan this is Doctor Jones."
"It's Coraline actually, Coraline Jones. Hello," Coraline said offering her hand.

"I liked Jane well enough," he added, following her into the pub. "And it was more just trying to get out there and see something besides the states. Just... expanding myself."
That, and it was easy to find a meal on the battlefield without arousing suspicion. Not so easy that he didn't end up killing a lot of witnesses. But that had been for Henry.

Coraline brushed past Aidan as she walked into the pub. Smiling as she looked around, Coraline laughed. Just what she had wanted. Definitely decent pub standards. "You can get the drinks, I'll have whatever and I'll get us a booth. And then you can tell me more or I can try and pry it out of you. Either way."
Her hand definitely lingering on his arm for a moment too long before she nudged him.

Aidan was pretty sure that Coraline was going to do her best to drive him crazy. Fortunately, he had centuries of experience to rely on to try and prevent that from happening, but he wasn't sure if even that was going to be enough in this instance.
Grabbing two pints of something dark, Aidan headed over to the booth where Coraline was at. He didn't need to drink or eat to survive, but that didn't mean he wasn't able to.
"They also have pretty good food here."
no subject
"Yes, but is it nice fancy food?" Coraline asked before laughing. Nudging Aidan in the stomach, she sat back and took her pint from him. Examining the glass curiously, Coraline took a mouthful before letting out an almost obscene noise of pleasure. "Mmm, that is so good definitely what I needed."
no subject
"And it's not as old as most places in England, there's a lot of history here."
A lot of it Aidan had lived through.

Picking up her glass to drink, Coraline hid the smile in it before drinking. Body pressing against Aidan's side, Coraline leaned back in her seat and stretched her legs out. "Yeah? Like what?"

It was hard to think just what she might find particularly interesting. Most of what Boston was known for was US history.
"It depends on how interested in Benjamin Franklin or the other Founding Fathers."
no subject
"Maybe," Coraline replied before adding with a teasing smile. "I never thought you would be the type of guy to wear My Little Pony underwear."
Coraline laughed, letting her hands rest against Aidan's stomach before sitting back a little. "Mmm, where they as cool or as interesting as Indiana Jones?"
no subject
"But you would not believe how easy it was to find those in adult sizes. Very disturbing, actually. And I'd say that George Washington was as cool or as interesting as Indy. You a big Indiana Jones fan?"
no subject
Coraline smiled, letting her hands fall away from his stomach. Reaching for her pint, she took another mouthful with a low mmm before turning to smile, nodding at Aidan. "Mmmhmm, I love Indiana Jones. When I was a kid, I definitely thought I was going to grow up to be him. Besides who isn't a fan of Indiana Jones? The answer, no one."

He suddenly wondered if she knew. Maybe she was some sort of vampire hunter and was testing him, making double sure that he was what she suspected he was. That would make sense, if she could see Sally and was practically throwing herself at him.
Aidan narrowed his eyes a bit and studied her a bit more carefully. She was in good shape, she was smart, and she was rather forward with what was essentially a complete stranger.
"I was Indy for Halloween last year," Aidan said, taking another sip of his drink while he watched her from the corner of his eye.

"You do have pictures, right? Please, tell me you have pictures." Coraline asked curiously, drawing one leg underneath her as she turned and sat facing Aidan. Taking her drink, she finished the glass before placing it back down on the table turning to look at Aidan curiously. "Wait, who did Josh go as? Wilie? Marion? I think he has the legs to pull off Wilie, I mean from what I've seen of him."
no subject
"I do still have the costume though. And Josh didn't dress up. He insisted he was too old for that sort of thing."
no subject
"I don't know what is the bigger crime that you didn't get evidence or that your roommate doesn't dress up. You're never too old for costumes, especially at Halloween." Coraline said smiling as she sneakily, or as sneakily as Coraline Jones could ever do, tugged Aidan's glass towards her. She could get up but that meant climbing across Aidan and well, she was wearing a dress that could be quite uncomfortable. "You'll have to show me sometimes, the costume I mean."
no subject
"Someone would have to dress up as Marion as well to make me feel secure enough to do it."

Coraline was definitely feeling the effects of the alcohol. She'd never been much of a drinker as she tended to get a bit loose lipped and then people tended to think she was well, strange especially when she talked about ghosts and people who weren't there.
"Are there lots of people like us? People who can see... I mean, its always just been me. I tried meeting some of those psychics who say they can talk to the dead but honestly it's always just them and a little ear piece and someone connected to the internet." Coraline said taking another mouthful before placing the glass down on the table. Placing her hand on his knee, Coraline leaned forward looking at Aidan curiously. "It's just I've never met anyone like you before."
no subject
When she pressed in closer, Aidan tensed just a bit, wondering if she was going to attack him. This was a rather public place to do it, but vampires tended to be a paranoid lot by nature. Fortunately, it didn't look like she could conceal a stake on her person.
"Not many," he said, taking a moment to focus. "Most of them... don't handle it well. They tend to go crazy."
no subject
Coraline scrunched her face up, shaking her head before she took Aidan's drink and took a mouthful. Looking at Aidan curiously she left her other hand where it was, listening to him carefully.
"But not you or Josh, what's your secret?" Coraline asked.
no subject
"I think you might be better at the whole seducing the older man, flirting thing than you think," he said. Considering he was over 250 years old, he was pretty sure she could manage it.
"And I was lucky that someone else who could see them found me when I was relatively young. Josh has only recently been able to see them."
no subject
"You really think so?" Coraline asked, her fingertips curling around his leg to steady herself. Coraline leaned forward, licking her lips as she leaned close in to Aidan before tapping his nose with her fingertip grinning, all trouble at him. "Nah."
Coraline leaned back against Aidan's arm, smiling more thoughtfully as he talked about finding others like her. That would have been nice, it would have answered a lot of questions. It would have made her feel like she fit in. People tended to look at her oddly if they found out she saw ghosts but not Aidan and that was... nice. More than nice.
"Does he know why? I mean, why Josh? Why you? Why me? It's just I have so many questions, you have no idea just how many." Coraline said, hand stretching up his leg.
no subject
Also, if that hand went much higher, she was going to brush up against something that let her know just how much Aidan was enjoying the flirting, intentional or not.
"We're not 100% sure why us," Aidan said. It was a bold faced lie, but when you struggled to go around not eating people, a little white lie wasn't a big deal. "We just know they all follow the same general rules."
no subject
"Oh yeah, what sort of general rules?" Coraline asked curiously, pulling her hair back from her face and twisting it so it was off her neck and out of her way.
no subject
"That doesn't mean they're not dangerous though. Also, there's the iron thing, which temporarily disperses them."
no subject
"Oh I know that one, the danger thing not the iron thing. But the iron thing explains a lot, I've always had this lucky key... I can't remember where I got it from. My... Mother I guess," Coraline said her voice trailing off before she shook her head at the vague memory. Coraline leaned forward to finish Aidan's pint. Placing the empty glass down on the table, Coraline smacked Aidan's leg gently before looking at him curiously. Her hand squeezing as she turned. "Want another? I'll get them."
no subject
Returning to the table, he set both pints down. If she wanted to drink both of them again, that was fine. It meant she probably wasn't a vampire hunter.
